Irrigation tip: Hills side lots often require structural retaining walls to keep loose dirt and mud from sliding into a neighboring property and causing damage to the house or other features. Retaining walls are commonly built out of reinforced poured concrete, concrete blocks or sections of wood, such as railroad ties, laid horizontally between steel beams. A concrete v-ditch (so called because of its shape) collects and carries water away from hillside or sloping home sites to the street to a catch basin.
Sprinkler System Installation Process: Fort Worth, TX
Installing a professional irrigation system in Fort Worth requires more than just digging trenches. It involves navigating local soil challenges, adhering to municipal water codes, and designing for the specific climate of North Texas.
Step 1: Custom Design and Mapping
Every installation begins with a site survey. Designers calculate water pressure (PSI) and flow rates (GPM) to divide the landscape into 'zones.' This ensures that high-water areas like turf are separated from drip-irrigation areas like flower beds.
Step 2: Permitting and Compliance
Fort Worth and surrounding cities require a plumbing permit for new installations. A vital component of this stage is the Backflow Prevention Assembly, which protects the city's potable water supply from irrigation system contaminants.
Step 3: Trenching and Pipe Placement
Using specialized equipment, trenches are dug to a depth that protects pipes from Texas surface heat and potential freeze cycles. High-quality PVC or poly-piping is then laid according to the zone map.
Step 4: Installing Heads and Valves
Valves are housed in protective boxes to act as the 'hubs' for each zone. Sprinkler heads (rotary, spray, or drip) are installed and leveled to ensure 'head-to-head' coverage, eliminating dry spots.
Step 5: Smart Controller Setup
The system is connected to a controller—often a smart, Wi-Fi-enabled model. In Fort Worth, rain and freeze sensors are mandatory or highly recommended to automatically shut off the system during inclement weather or watering restriction days.
Step 6: Final Pressure Test and Backfill
The system is pressurized to check for leaks. Once verified, the trenches are backfilled and the turf is restored. A final walkthrough ensures all heads are correctly aimed away from sidewalks and buildings.
We had Calworth install a sprinkler system for us back in 2008. I'm happy to say that despite the insane weather patterns we've been hit with over the past few years, including more snow than I can ever remember in this area, our system hasn't had a single problem and keeps our lawn looking great. These guys know their stuff and the pricing was very reasonable, especially relative to the quality. -Melissa, Argyle, TX resident
